Elevation Certificate Survey
An Elevation Certificate Survey is usually conducted in
connection with a application for flood insurance through the
National Flood Insurance Program. Lenders may require the
purchase of flood insurance if the property is located in or
near a Special Flood Hazard Area as designated by FEMA.
Flood Insurance is mandatory for homes in high-risk flood
areas if the lender is a federally regulated lender.
The survey results in the completion of an Elevation Certificate
Form issued by FEMA. The completed Elevation Certificate
Form establishes the relationship between the foundation
elevation and the base flood elevation (if known). The
relationship will allow help define the amount of the insurance
premium for the property.
